Lt. Governor Jeanette Nuñez Announces Spring 2022 Florida Space Art Contest for K-5 Students

Tallahassee, Florida. – Today, Lieutenant Governor Jeanette Nuñez announced the launch of the 2022 Florida Space Art Competition. With March being Youth Art Month, students are encouraged to create a work of themed inspired art Florida is the perfect place for space: Celebrating Florida’s contributions to space travel and exploration. Kindergarten through 5th grade students are invited to participate in the art contest. Student Contest rules and guidelines can be viewed online at www.FloridaSpaceArt.com.
“As Chairman of the Board of Directors of Space Florida, I am proud to launch the Florida Space Art Contest for K-5 students,” said Lieutenant Governor Jeanette Nuñez. “This is an exciting opportunity for students to showcase their creativity and artistry while showcasing Florida’s iconic Space Coast, space travel and exploration. I can’t wait to see all the submissions which will no doubt be out of this world.
Space Florida, as a key sponsor of the Lieutenant Governor’s Space Art Competition, believes that supporting STEAM education initiatives is integral to its mission.

About the Florida Student Space Art Competition
The Lt. Governor Jeanette Nuñez Space Art Contest is open to all kindergarten through 5th graders in Florida. Each student will submit an original two-dimensional work of art based on this year’s theme. Submissions will be divided into two categories: K-2 and 3-5. Five original works of art will be selected in each category, with one grand prize winner selected from each group.
About the featured artist
Jonlouis Gonzalez is the featured artist for the Florida Space Art Contest 2022. His work is inspired by his love for space. Last year, Jonlouis’ art flew with the SpaceX Inspiration4 crew and donated to charity.
“As an artist and as someone who grew up watching space launches from my hometown of Melbourne, I couldn’t be more excited to be part of this space art competition,” says Jonlouis Gonzalez. “I hope students in our state become creative and inspired by our astronauts who are sent on missions to improve the lives of all mankind.”
